Our collections have always been a reflection of my various life stages and this time I was feeling like the world needed something a little more appropriate for everyday life – but without losing the typical glamour and playfulness of Safarahh.
Something that could survive a long lunch, a last-minute dinner, a London heatwave or a coastal sunset and all that in a slightly more grown up way.
And so, Hestia is born – an ode to the comfort of home, the fire of a woman and the glamour of Safarahh.
Inspired by the Greek goddess of ‘the hearth and sacred fire’, the collection still carries the playful spirit of Safarahh, but this time with a more considered approach. The detail is more intricate, the silhouettes more wearable and the pieces designed to move more easily between seasons, occasions and versions of ourselves.
For Hestia, we sourced deadstock Italian linen and worked with Indian silk suppliers continuing our commitment to using only high-quality natural fabrics. Every piece is handmade by our Nairobi-based tailors and artisans, with details developed over months (and in some cases years!) of sampling, adjusting and occasionally changing our minds entirely (!)
Our brass hardware was welded by artisans in Kibera. Beadwork was completed by craftspeople across Nairobi. Certain details took an alarmingly long time to perfect, but that is just what happens when you are so emotionally attached to the tiniest design details.
Although it’s a new collection, everything that makes Safarahh is still the same: inspired by coastal living — a mix of bold and vibrant colours floaty fabrics and loose fitting yet timeless and elegant designs, our old saying goes ‘if you cant cross your legs in it we won’t design it’. Each item has still been made to last forever, we have even leave a little extra fabric inside most garments so they can be altered over time because lets face it, our bodies do change, but why should that stop us from wearing our favourite styles.
Hestia will spend the summer at Platform Store in Marylebone, London, before making its way back to Kenya towards the end of the year – we have always loved being a travelling brand, it lets us reach customers far and wide.
Enjoy exploring.
